Kites - from Gaza to Spilamberto
Together with Hazem Alqadi (Gaza, 1998) we proposed, as part of the ‘Estate Giovanissimi’ programme in Spilamberto, to make kites using the traditional techniques of the Palestinian people. Kites have a special meaning in the history of Palestine: they represent hope, resilience and freedom. There is no child in Gaza who does not know how to make one - out of pieces of wood and a few rubbish bags. Using recycled and salvaged materials, we helped Hazem pass on this ancient knowledge and symbol of resilience to the young participants of our workshop.
